Abstract

In a wire printer, a print head is stepped twelve motor steps for one character space. The condition A, B of the motor triggers A, B occurs at motor pulses 1, 5, and 9. Thus there are three possible detent positions, one every four steps, for each character space. Only one is the proper detent position for stopping between characters. A print emitter, driven by the motor, operates a 1...9 counter. Emitter pulse PE5 is decoded from this counter and gates in And 10 with a Stop signal to turn on Stop Latch 12. Since emitter pulse PE5 occurs approximately halfway between motor pulses 5 and 9, the condition A, B of the motor triggers A and B is used with a Forward signal in And 14 to gate the on output of Stop Latch 12 in And 16.
