Abstract

Insulation 3 is stripped from a wire, without cutting the wire core 4 by floating knife 1 and stationary knife 2. In the left-hand drawing knives 1 and 2 cut insulation 3. Knife 1 is adjustable with a friction device such that it cuts only insulation 3 and stops at the wire surface. In the right-hand drawing, knives 1 end 2 then move along the surface of the wire causing insulation 3 to be pushed back. Stationary cam follower 5 and movable cam 4 cause knife 1 to lift from the surface of wire core 6 as knife l pushes back insulation 3. This lifting action insures that wire core 6 is not damaged.
