Abstract

A video system for interactive man-CPU communication includes standard television unit 1 with control unit 2 for audio and video adjustable lens 3, and retractable mirror 4 extending to a 45 degree position over form 5 at base of unit 1. The latter emits vertical and horizontal synchronizing pulses and blank and unblank TV signals are used also to control input to CPU 15. Interface circuits 9 feed video input to CPU 15 by encoding video synchronizing and line-of-scan sequences. CPU programs recognize patterns in scanned data and accept or mask signals according to meanings ascribed to signal patterns.

Substitute form 7 in drawing B for interrogation of CPU as to inventory status and form 8 in drawing C for on-line arithmetic calculation can be used by directing CPU attention to boxes in a selected sequence. A program in drawing D keeps track of scan line number and the position on that line by counting vertical lines 13 and by a timing routine 14 which selects pertinent data within a current line. In drawing C, the box with numeral 6 can be designated by vertical pitch of raster lines, for that box, and a time slot for the time and fraction of duration of a scan. Drawing D shows how a scanner is programmed to process document identifying marks. When program detects change in box or field, scanning signal is blocked from processing by CPU for rest of that frame scan to reduce data input.
