Abstract

A fluorosilicone oil, trifluoropropyl methylsiloxane, is an environment insensitive lubricant for use in contact recording. Frictional measurements made with a ball abrasion tester show that an oil of this type, Dow Corning FS 1265, 300 cs., does not lose its lubrication properties at high humidities. In contrast, the friction with plain silicones unexpectedly doubles as the humidity increases.
