Abstract

A toner brick, which is toner powder compressed into brick form, can be ground and converted back to powder form. This is effected by moving an open pore foam material, which is in contact with the toner brick, continuously past such brick. As in drawing 1, drum 1, having on its outer periphery a layer of open pore foam material 2, is rotated in the direction of arrow 3 and is in frictional contact with toner brick 4 having pressure applied to it in the direction of arrow 5. Alternatively, disk 6, drawing 2, can be used in place of drum 1 and carries on its surface a layer of open pore foam material 7 in frictional contact with toner brick 8 having pressure applied in the direction of arrow 9.

The advantage of open pore foam material for grinding the toner brick is that such foam does not fill up and clog and does not chip the toner brick into undesirable large particle sizes. The ground toner is thus uniform in size and useful for uniformly developing electrostatic images.
