Abstract

Slotted bracket 10 in drawing A is pivotably fastened to angle member 11 attached to hinged cover 12 and is confined by guide assembly 13. The latter includes a pair of friction washers 15 which engage opposite sides of bracket 10 and are spring-loaded by helical spring 16. Between washers 15 is cylindrical stop 17 disposed in the bracket slot to limit axial travel of washers 15. Bolt 18 and nut 19 secure guide assembly 13 to bracket 20 mounted on the housing to which cover 12 is hinged.

Cover Brace

Slotted bracket 10 in drawing A is pivotably fastened to angle member 11 attached to hinged cover 12 and is confined by guide assembly 13. The latter includes a pair of friction washers 15 which engage opposite sides of bracket 10 and are spring-loaded by helical spring 16. Between washers 15 is cylindrical stop 17 disposed in the bracket slot to limit axial travel of washers 15. Bolt 18 and nut 19 secure guide assembly 13 to bracket 20 mounted on the housing to which cover 12 is hinged.

Cover 12 can be locked in either an open or closed position as washers 15 are received in friction relief bracket recesses 22 or 23. Any intermediate position can be assumed and maintained as shown at B unless and until sufficient force is applied to overcome the friction between washers 15 and bracket 10.

By providing an elongated slot 25 in bracket 20, assembly 13 can be adjusted to establish the condition as at C. In such condition, chamfered surfaces 26 of washers 15 engage inclined surfaces 27 of bracket 10 to restrain cover 12 in the closed position.
