Abstract

This circuitry eliminates the need for bias power supplies in SCR control circuits and provides an effective full-wave semiconductor static switch that minimizes undesirable electromagnetic radiation. Silicon controlled rectifiers SCR1 and SCR2 are connected between AC source 10 and load 12 so that they conduct during alternate half cycles. Connected in the gate circuit of each SCR is a light sensitive resistor or photoconductor 14 and 16 of the type that permits conduction only when exposed to light energy. Resistors 14 and 16 are physically located in proximity to lamp 18, the operation of which is controlled by lamp control circuit 20. Switching is controlled by energization of lamp 18, with the line voltage being applied to load 12 only when lamp 18 is on.
