Abstract

The welding tool electrically connects separate semiconductor members to an interconnection strip by two series welds in one simultaneous operation. A shunt probe electrically bypasses the interconnection strip between the series weld points to prevent burnout. Welding in inaccessible areas and on a variety of formats is attained by utilizing a plurality of shunt probes appropriately arranged. Decal 1, having undersurface interconnector 2, is positioned to bridge the gap between semiconductor chip 3 and substrate 4. Two series welds are formed as welding current, either AC or DC, passes from terminal 5 to terminal 6. Welding current bypasses interconnection 2 through a double probe shunt 7 contacting chip pad 8 and substrate land 9.
