Abstract

The semiconductor device identifies and segregates, according to frequency, speech acoustically coupled to it. The device consists of a number of cantilevers 1...4 cut to various dimensions from monocrystalline silicon. Strain sensitive elements such as piezoresistors 5 are diffused into each of the cantilevers to provide an electrical indication of acoustic excitation. Speech, acoustically coupled to the cantilevers 1...4, causes only those cantilevers whose resonant frequency coincides with components of the uttered sounds to resonate. The stresses induced in the cantilevers by resonance are sensed by piezoresistors 5 which provide electrical outputs on wires 6 proportional to the intensity of that component.
