Abstract

Kelvin contactor 1 has two conducting beams 2 and 3, bonded together by electrically insulating adhesive layer 4. One end of the beam assembly is rigidly mounted in cantilever relationship on support 5 where connections can be made to an external test circuit. The cantilever mounting allows the other end freedom of movement in both X and Y directions. Microcircuit chip contact balls or pads 6 are brought into contact with each of a multiplicity of these beam assemblies. If the pad contacts only one of the beans, V-recess 7 effectively centers about pad 6 to cause the beam assembly to move in the X direction as it moves down in the Y direction. As the beam assembly moves in the X direction, pad 6 centers in recess 7 so that both beams come into contact with pad 6, thus achieving a Kelvin contact.
