Abstract

This material replaces ferrite keepers used in a thin magnetic film memory. This evaporable magnetic film with high electrical resistance is especially useful in an integrated magnetic film memory where all layers are prepared by either evaporation or electro- or electroless deposition or all. In contrast to conventional ferrite keepers, the spacing between the keepers and the underlying magnetic layers can be made uniform by use of an insulation layer of desired thickness.

This material replaces ferrite keepers used in a thin magnetic film memory. This evaporable magnetic film with high electrical resistance is especially useful in an integrated magnetic film memory where all layers are prepared by either evaporation or electro- or electroless deposition or all. The composition of the keeper consists of permalloy with a desired percentage of SiO mixed in it. The material is prepared by the simultaneous vacuum evaporation of permalloy or other magnetic material and SiO from separate sources.

Typical fabrication parameters and magnetic properties with and without the addition of SiO are shown in the following examples. Also, resistance values of films with and without the addition of SiO are given.
