Abstract

Rubber-like material 10 is used to develop the contact pressure for contact member 12. The latter is embedded in material 10. Such is set in an opening in rigid metal frame 14. The bottom of the opening has a space 16 which is as wide as the maximum allowable deflection for contact 12. To make electrical contact to rigid contact area 18, the tip of contact 12 is pressed against area 18. Thus, contact 12 deflects and the rubber thus exerts the pressure to hold such contact against area 18. Contact 12 is the conductor in a transmission line while frame 14 is the ground plane of such line. Therefore material 10 also serves as the dielectric insulation between frame 14 and contact 12. Since contact 12 and frame 14 are not used as springs, the material used in their construction need not be limited to spring metal.
