Plastic parts 10 are produced in molding apparatus 12 and automatically ejected from it by self-cocking ejection mechanism 14. Apparatus 12 includes upper mold member 15, intermediate mold member 16 having a molding cavity such as 18, and lower mold member 20.

Drawing A shows a part 10, molded in cavity 18 with apparatus 12 closed. Part 10 includes insert 11. When the molding of part 10 is complete, a suitable drive is actuated to raise ejector plate 24 and member 15 by connecting pin 26. As plate 24 rises, it carries ejector pin 32 upwardly, the latter comprising a portion of mechanism 14. This is accomplished by the interaction of shoulder 36 on slide member 38 and flange 40 on pin 32. The latter thus forces part 10 out of cavity 18 as in drawing B.

As plate 24 continues to rise it reaches upper cam pin 28 which pin is aligned with opening 30 in plate 24. Cam surface 42 of pin 28, by coaction with cam surface 44 on member 38, acts to slide shoulder 36 out of contact with flange 40. Spring 46, carried on pin 32, compressed as in drawing B, acts to recock or reset pin 32 as indicated by arrow 50. Spring 46 forces pin 32 downwardly out of cavity 18 to permit parts such as inserts 11 to be placed in the cavity before member 15 is closed.
