Pressure Limit Valve

This valve automatically connects a low-pressure fluid supply to the utilization device only when the pressure reaches the required level. The valve has a hysteretic capability of closing at a pressure lower than that required for opening.

The valve assembly includes main body 1 with inlet port 2 and outlet port 3. Preformed diaphragm 4, spring-biased by plunger 5 against annular ridge 13, isolates chambers 6 and 7. Adjustment of the required operating pressure is effected by inlet regulating screw 8 and pressure regulating screw 9 acting against spring 10. Connected to chamber 7, with which port 3 is associated, is a second port 11 provided with relief orifice 12 for controlling the upper pressure limit.

In operation, screw 9 is adjusted to allow diaphragm 4 to open when an acceptable pressure is reached in annular chamber 6. Opening of diaphragm 4 allows the pressure to act upon the entire surface of such diaphragm to prevent closure of the valve due to a slight pressure drop. Pressure level for closure of the valve is controlled by screw 8 and orifice 12.
