Abstract

Mold cavities 10 for plastic parts 11 having metal inserts 12 are made from a machine-made pattern 13. This is effected by compression-forming solid metal 14, such as the eutectoid of 78% zinc, 22% aluminum, conditioned as described in U. S. Patent 3,340,101. The mold forming process requires relatively low force. Molds 10 are characterized by their dimensional stability and good as-pressed surface finish. Mold stability is enhanced by heating the finished mold to 600 degrees F after forming.
