Abstract

A carrier position and margin indicator is provided by a row of indicating tabs 10 formed of magnetic material. Tabs 10 are pivotally mounted in transparent tube 11 extending across the front of a single element typewriter 12 or similar printing device. Print element 13 of typewriter 12 is mounted on carrier 14. Magnet 15 is attached to carrier 14 and is positioned behind the row of tabs 10. As carrier 14 moves back and forth during typing operations, magnet 15 pivots the adjacent tab 10 to visually indicate to the typist the current position of print element 13. The margin settings are shown by the pair of tabs 10 pivoted by magnets 16 and 17 that are carried by a pair of spaced margin stops 18 and 19. The latter are manually positionable along margin rack 20.
