Abstract

Movement of print element carrier 10 of a single element typewriter to the right margin position rotates margin member 11 clockwise. Bell ringer bail 12 is pivoted and its extension 13 lifts lever 14 carrying hook-shaped link 15. Upward movement of link 15 rotates interlock bail 16. Latch member 17, fastened to bail 16, is moved into blocking relation with clutch release link 18 when bail 16 is rotated. This prevents withdrawal of latch 19 from cycle clutch 20, employed to transmit power to the printing mechanism of the typewriter, until carrier 10 moves from the right margin position or the margin release button is depressed by the typist.

Line Lock Mechanism

The typewriter employs the keyboard arrangements shown in United States Patents 3,086,635 and 3,353,646 so that a character can be selected and stored for printing after the interlock is released.
