Abstract

This memory construction assists in suppressing noise that occurs when a group of parallel-disposed drive conductors conduct current in the same direction. The memory includes cores 2, a set of drive wires 3, and an addressing circuit 4. During a read or write operation on the memory, one wire is selected on the memory, one wire is selected to conduct a predetermined circuit level for switching core. The unselected wires provide a return current path to addressing circuit 4. Each unselected wire carries a parallel portion of the return current. The magnetic field of the unselected conductors tends to occupy a rather large volume of space essentially above the drive wires.

By contrast, the current in the selected wire and the core signals, carried by a sense wire not shown, have their magnetic fields sharply concentrated around them. Resistive sheet 5 is located near the drive wires. The resistance is given a value to damp the magnetic fields associated with the unselected drive wires but to not significantly damp the drive current on the selected wire or the signal on the sense wire. The resistive sheet also decreases the inductive and capacitive coupling between nonadjacent drive wires.
