Abstract

The shifting mechanism for moving the accumulator shift frame 10 is actuated by a single cam 1. Positioning action is accomplished by tabs 3 and 4 which function independently of one another. Tabs 3 and 4 are alternatively positioned in notches 16 and 17 in side arms 5 and 6 respectively, to enable tab 3 to control the side arms during the fall of cam 1 and tab 4 to control the positioning of the side arms during the rise of cam 1. Movement of side arms 5 and 6 causes pivoting of lever 7 which shifts frame 10. Tab 3 is key controlled through link 15 in accordance with the positive or negative nature of the transaction to be recorded. The position of tab 4 is changed by an end-around carry in the accumulator.

The end-around carry rotates intermittent cam 9 through 90 degrees in a counterclockwise direction causing the kicker of lever 8 to pivot transfer link 13. Link 14 and yoke 18 transmit motion of transfer link 13 to tab 4.

Prior to a machine cycle, tab 3 is positioned by the character of the transaction to be entered in accordance with the keyed entry through link 15. During the initial portion of the machine cycle, as cam 1 falls, during counterclockwise rotation from the position shown at A, tab 3 engages and moves either side arm 5 or side arm 6 when it is necessary to shift accumulator 10 for the entry of a transaction.
