Abstract

The radial lock mechanism for holding cored rolls of material includes hollow cylindrical rotating spool 10 with circular flange 11. The cylindrical portion has formed in it a wide slot 14 and a peripherally spaced narrow slot 15. Spring steel insert 17 includes tabs 18 and 19. These project from central curved portion 20 with a radius of curvature of the exterior surface 21 substantially identical to the bore of spool 10. Insert 17 is installed by insertion of one of tabs 18 and 19 initially through slot 14 and then through slot 15 causing the exterior curved surface 21 of insert 17 to mate against the bore of spool 10. Insert tabs 18 and 19 provide a high degree of radial lock while introducing minimum axial resistance to installation and removal of cored rolls of material.
