Abstract

In this tape drive, the main drive consists of a motor 1 driving a high inertia disk 2, both of which coaxially drive a capstan 3, covered with a soft material such as rubber. Pinch roller 4 maintains the disk in contact with capstan 3. The drive control 1 and 2 is the coarse speed control. The fine speed control constitutes voice coil 5 which varies the pressure between pinch roller 4 and capstan 3.
