Abstract

Ribbon leader 11 is held to under wrap 13 by adhesive tab 15 of laminated or clay-coated paper sandwiched between two layers 17 of pressure sensitive adhesive. The latter forms a stronger bond with leader 11 than the delaminating strength of the paper. Thus when the end 19 of leader 11 is pulled away from wrap 13, tab 15 tears leaving the adhesive covered and inactive. Ribbon spool 21 has leader 23 threaded through tension spring 24 mounted in ribbon cartridge 25. To prevent the loosening of the ribbon in cartridge 25 due to heat and humidity cycling, adhesive tab 29 attaches leader 23 to the under wrap prior to such leader entry into spring 24. A second adhesive tab 31 attaches leader 23 to the under wrap at a point after it emerges from spring 24.

Separable Adhesive Tab for Ribbon Leader

Ribbon leader 11 is held to under wrap 13 by adhesive tab 15 of laminated or clay-coated paper sandwiched between two layers 17 of pressure sensitive adhesive. The latter forms a stronger bond with leader 11 than the delaminating strength of the paper. Thus when the end 19 of leader 11 is pulled away from wrap 13, tab 15 tears leaving the adhesive covered and inactive. Ribbon spool 21 has leader 23 threaded through tension spring 24 mounted in ribbon cartridge
25. The leader can be separated for use by pulling the outer end to tear tabs 29 and 31 without exposing any adhesive which would otherwise stick on the ribbon feed guides and takeup rollers.
