The data display has panel 20 bearing indicia matrix 22. Arranged in cross- configuration medially of plate 20 is a pair of rows of indicator lights 24 and 26. Row 24 is disposed in the X direction and row 26 is disposed in the Y direction.

Drive circuitry operates the X and Y lights in a coordinate manner for indicating readout of one indicia 22. Cable 34 connects bit positions 0...3 of the eight-bit register 32 through normally conductive gate 36 and cable 37 to decoder
38. The latter delivers via cable 40 energization to a unique one of the Y coordinate lights 26 in accordance with each valid code combination for bit position 0...3 in register 32. Cable 42 connects bit positions 4...7 of register 32 through normally conductive gate 44 and cable 45 to a decoder 46. This delivers via cable 48 energization to a unique one of the X coordinate lights 24. For each eight-bit data of register 32, lights the Y axis and X axis are illuminated. The operator completes the decoding by visually tracing to the intersection of the row and column defined by the two lights.

Bit positions 0...3 in register 32 are also connected via cable 52 and bit positions 4...7 via cable 54 to a normally nonconditioned gate 56 which, when conditioned, connects these outputs to cable 50.
