Abstract

The vacuum mask fixture is employed for masking portions of a substrate where plating is not desired when carrying out plating operations in the fabrication of magnetic film memory plates. The vacuum plating fixture masks the magnetic film portion of a substrate while carrying out the plating of conductor lines around the edge of the magnetic film portion. Thin plate 10 has the dimensions of the magnetic film portion to be masked. There is an airtight gasket 11 made of polyvinyl chloride or other resinous polymeric material around the edge of the plate. Valve 12, a SWAGELOK* quick-connecting valve, is provided for evacuating the area under the plate 10 when it is in place. With the fixture in place, the portion of a substrate corresponding to the area of plate 10 inside the gasket 11 is masked.
