Abstract

The toner dispenser comprises hopper 10 filled with a quantity of particulate toner. The latter is dispensed at accurately controlled dispensing rates into the developing chamber of a xerographic copying machine. Hopper 10 has a pair of downwardly converging side walls 11 and 12 and a bottom wall formed by resilient flap 13 and spring member 14. This engages member 13 adjacent its point of contact with front wall 11 of hopper 10. Disposed within hopper 10 and adjacent wall 11 is vertically movable dispensing member 15. The latter is biased by spring 16 to an upper position against stationary stop 17 and has dispensing blade portion 18 which rides against wall 11 of hopper 10. Cam follower portion 19 of member 15 is engaged by rotatable cam 20.

The toner dispenser comprises hopper 10 filled with a quantity of particulate toner. Hopper 10 has a pair of downwardly converging side walls 11 and 12 and a bottom wall formed by resilient flap 13 and spring member 14. This engages member 13 adjacent its point of contact with front wall 11 of hopper 10. Disposed within hopper 10 and adjacent wall 11 is vertically movable dispensing member 15. The latter is biased by spring 16 to an upper position against stationary stop 17 and has dispensing blade portion 18 which rides against wall 11 of hopper 10. Cam follower portion 19 of member 15 is engaged by rotatable cam 20. In dispensing toner, cam 20 is rotated and, as shown in the enlarged views, a measured amount of toner is trapped between the end of blade 18, wall 11 of hopper 10, and flap 13. The measured quantity of the toner is dispensed as flap 13 is deflected upon continued downward movement of blade 18. Cam 20 has notch 21 which causes an abrupt jump in blade 18 while it is below flap 13 to insure the toner is removed from the end of such blade. The feed rate is varied by adjusting the angular position of flap 13 to change the volume of the enclosure formed by wall 11 of hopper 10, flap 13, and the lower end of blade 18.
