Abstract

Card 10 is transported along the upper surface 11 of guide plate 12. Such occurs when pressure roll 14 is pivoted toward engagement with drive roll 18 to impart movement to card 10 in accordance with the motion of roll 18. Pivot bracket assembly 20 is journaled about shaft 22 and is normally retained in a nonactuated condition in abutting relation with stop member 24 by the action of biasing spring 25. Assembly 20 includes clevis 27 which carries roll 14. Clevis 27 is mounted by bolt 29 to cantilevered plate 30 which projects from U-shaped member 32.

Card 10 is transported along the upper surface 11 of guide plate 12. Such occurs when pressure roll 14 is pivoted toward engagement with drive roll 18 to impart movement to card 10 in accordance with the motion of roll 18. Pivot bracket assembly 20 is journaled about shaft 22 and is normally retained in a nonactuated condition in abutting relation with stop member 24 by the action of biasing spring 25. Assembly 20 includes clevis 27 which carries roll 14. Clevis 27 is mounted by bolt 29 to cantilevered plate 30 which projects from U-shaped member 32.

Armature 33 is mounted as a part of assembly 20 along the web of member
32. A pair of screw elements 35 and 36 projects from one flange of member 20 and engages clevis 27 to control the caster of roll 14. Electromagnet 38 actuates roll 14 by attracting armature 33 to pole 39.

Upon actuation of electromagnet 38, armature 33 seals against pole 39 and roll 14 moves toward roll 18. If a card 10 is not present, roll 14 moves toward roll 18, stopping short of engagement, but with a clearance between them less than the thickness of a card. When a card 10 is present, it is compressed between roll 18 and roll 14 with armature 33 sealed against magnet pole 39. Cantilevered plate 30 then deflects, establishing the compressive driving force between card 10 and roll 18.
