Abstract

Type impressions are spaced along ink ribbon 10 to minimize impact overlap by operating ribbon feed cam 11 continuously independently of an individual typebar cam lever 12. When typing underscore and other often repeated symbols, it is desirable to minimize overstrike on the same area of a ribbon to achieve uniform print density. Keylevers 13 for selecting such repeat characters are connected by push rods 14 to ribbon feed control bail 15 which operates control arm 16 of ribbon feed cam 11. The latter is connected by output link 17 to ribbon feed bellcrank 18 for incrementing feed rolls 19. Depression of a keylever 13 thus causes continuous drive of ribbon feed cam 11. Thus ribbon 10 is fed at a rate exceeding that normally produced by a single operation of cam 11 as selected by the typebar cam lever 12.
