This is an encoder and decoder for a communications system. The code can contain up to three pulse repetition rates, depending on the data being encoded, and contains its own clock.

The encoder, drawing 1, comprises Exclusive-Or 10 for NRZ data A and clock signal B, which provides phase-encoded, double-frequency data C. This is fed to trigger 12, the output of which is triple-frequency data D.

The decoder, drawing 2, comprises limiters 14, edge detector 15 with its combination of gates 16, 18, and 20, delays 22 and 21 and Inverter 26. Pulses F from detector 15 combine with output G of clock generator 26 in And 28. The latter's output H feeds single-shot 30 having a delay equal to the single code frequency.
