Abstract

In data processing operations, such as arithmetic and similar manipulations of data, a spaced series of pulses of controlled number is required. Also, since electronic machines can better utilize signals which are in the form of pulses, a different pulse indicative of the termination of the series of pulses is desirable. The circuit shapes, circulates, and amplifies an input to provide a series of pulses. The regenerative circulation is in response to an And condition with a timing signal originated by the input signal. When the timing signal drops, the pulse being circulated is gated out on a different line to serve as a pulse indicative of the termination of the series.

The circuit is dependent upon the characteristics of single-shots S-S1 and S- S2. The circuit produces any desired number of pulses of any desired pulse width without the use of additional components. An input pulse triggers S-S1 which is preselected or adjusted to assume its metastable state for a time equal to the desired pulse width. The pulse is amplified and shaped by line driver 1 and then serves as an output on series output line. These output pulses are also connected through delay unit 3 to And 5.
