Abstract

The valve controls air flow in two directions. The amount of air flowing in each direction can be varied. The valve includes five basic parts, namely, valve, spacer, two slides and the main housing. The valve is sightly thinner than the spacer. Hence, the valve can move in the direction of flow. However, it is retained by a diametrical clearance perpendicular to the flow. The slides can be moved by adjustment screws. The slides have one through-hole with a slot at one end tapering into this hole for flow adjustment.

Flow Control Valve

The valve controls air flow in two directions. The amount of air flowing in each direction can be varied. The valve includes five basic parts, namely, valve, spacer, two slides and the main housing. The valve is sightly thinner than the spacer. Hence, the valve can move in the direction of flow. However, it is retained by a diametrical clearance perpendicular to the flow. The slides can be moved by adjustment screws. The slides have one through-hole with a slot at one end tapering into this hole for flow adjustment.

When the flow is from the left to the right, the valve is forced away from the left side and seats against the right slide. The air then passes freely through the left side, between the valve and the spacer, through the tapered slot in the right side and then out the right channel. The flow rate is adjusted by moving the right slide such that more or less of the tapered slot is uncovered. Flow control from the right to the left can likewise be controlled by adjusting the left slide.

The valve can also be used as a combination needle and check valve. Such is realized by adjusting the slide to a closed position on one side of the valve assembly and adjusting the slide on the opposite side to the desired flow rate.
