Abstract

Sensing port 10, located in the document path, is connected to vacuum source 11. Piston 12, biased by spring 16, is normally in a position so that aperture 13 permits light from lamp 14 to impinge upon light responsive element 15. When document 17 covers port 10, the static pressure in the line leading to 11 decreases and atmospheric pressure acting on 12 shifts it to the left so that the light path from 14 to 15 is blocked. This causes a change in output from 15 to provide an indication that document 17 is at a predetermined position within the document path.
