Abstract

The quantum efficiency of a photomultiplier can be improved by directing the cathode reflected light back to the cathode by reflecting optics. The light output from the flying spot scanner is directed to the cathode of end window photomultiplier PMT by lenses L1 and L2. The reflected light from the PMT cathode returns through field lens L2 and strikes spherical mirror M, causing it to be returned to the PMT cathode. Lens L2 images the scanned object on mirror M. Mirror M reimages the PMT cathode back on itself.
