Abstract

This process enhances the squareness of ferrite cores of the type generally used for the storage and retention of intelligence in computer and data processing machines. Ferrite powder is taken, mixed and ball-milled. It is then calcined by conventional techniques. The calcined material is next pressed into a desired ferrite core configuration, placed on a platinum or aluminum boat and inserted into a furnace. It is then fired at a temperature between 1100 to 1500 Degrees C for a selected period of time. Next, it is furnace cooled to a temperature above 700 Degrees C, removed from the furnace and quickly cooled in liquid nitrogen or liquid argon. The supercooling of the ferrite increases uniformity in a given batch and provides improved device properties for storage applications.
