Abstract

Capstan 10 is axially movable between braking surface 11 on one side and rotating surface 12 on the other side in order to obtain start-stop capstan motion. Solenoid 13 axially moves the capstan shaft to engage and disengage capstan 10 from these opposite surfaces to clutch the capstan 10 motion. Rotating surface 12 can be pulley driven by belt 14 connected to rotating friction drive pulley 16. Reverse directions of capstan rotation can be obtained by reversing the direction of rotation of belt 14.
