Abstract

The mechanism, for introducing recording element 1 into a vacuum system contained in housing 2, comprises element holder 3 movable into engagement with such housing and has chamber 4 in alignment with opening 5 in housing 2. In operation, holder 3 is moved to the right out of abutting relationship with housing 2. Shutter 6 closes the opening 5 to maintain the vacuum atmosphere within housing 2. Element 1 is positioned on the face of housing 2. Holder 3is moved into engagement with the housing. Cavity 4 is evacuated through passage 8. Shutter 6 is opened to permit exposure of element 1 to the vacuum. The air between shutter 6 and element 1 is dissipated into housing 2. Element 1 acts as a seal member between the housing wall and holder 3.
