Vacuum Line Coupling

This coupling has a valve that automatically closes line 14 when it is decoupled, and automatically opens such line when coupled.

Coupling 10 has male connector 12 attached to flexible hose 14. Connector 12 has resilient ring 16 disposed in annular groove 18 having a longitudinal thickness greater than ring 16. Passage 20 in 12 opens into the radical face of groove 18. Connector 12 is insertable into socket 22 and is releasably retained in it by detent 24.

In use, when connector 12 is inserted into socket 22, ring 16 is moved from the closed position over passage 20 thus providing an unobstructed passage through the coupling as indicated by arrow 26.
