Abstract

The automatic vacuum regulator valve operates on a balanced force weight principle. It provides a constant vacuum pressure to its vacuum output port 1 1 regardless of input pres sure variations from an unregulated vacuum source connected to port 12. The pressure regulating entity is a cylindrical poppet 10 which has a fixed weight. Its top surface area 13 acts against the pressure within valve container 14.

The automatic vacuum regulator valve operates on a balanced force weight principle. It provides a constant vacuum pressure to its vacuum output port 1 1 regardless of input pres sure variations from an unregulated vacuum source connected to port 12. The pressure regulating entity is a cylindrical poppet 10 which has a fixed weight. Its top surface area 13 acts against the pressure within valve container 14.

When it is in its downward position, poppet 10 completely blocks a pair of ports 16a and 16b and no atmospheric pressure communicates with chamber 14. But when input vacuum is applied to port 12, the normal vacuum pressure force on area 13 or poppet 10 is greater than the weight of poppet 10 and it is lifted to partly uncover ports 16a and 16b.

If the vacuum pressure within container 14 becomes too great, the force on surface 13 pulls poppet 10 further upwardly to uncover more of ports 16a and 16b to atmospheric pressure. Such action reduces the excess vacuum pressure in chamber 14 to the required value which stabilizes the position of poppet 10 at a higher position. The opposite occurs when the vacuum pressure in chamber 14 falls below the required value. Hence the effective opening for ports 16a and 16b changes to adjust for any variation of vacuum pressure in chamber 14 to stabilize it at a substantially constant value dependent on the weight and area of surface 13 of poppet 10.
