Abstract

Variable delay transmission line 1 of fixed length comprises rotatable inner conductor 3 and outer conductor 5. Each of conductors 3 and 5 has a noncircular cross-section. Conductor 3 supports dielectric layer 7. The latter is distributed such that the change in effective dielectric constant compensates for the change in effective inductance upon rotation of conductor 3 to vary the propagation velocity, i.e., 1/the square root of L/C, while maintaining the impedance, i.e., the square root of LC, constant.
