Pin Shearing Apparatus

This apparatus automatically picks up an electronic pinned module, shears its pins to two different lengths, and deposits the resultant module on a conveyor.

Apparatus 10, as shown at A, consists of rotary indexable table 12 provided with vacuum module holders 14. Table 12 receives modules 16 from a partially underlying indexable table 18, or other suitable conveyor, at loading station 20, moves modules 16 through shearing stations 22 and 24, and subsequently deposits them on conveyor 25 at unload station 26. The shearing operation is performed on the pins at two different lengths at stations 22 and 24. Modules 16, as indicated in B, C, and D, are supported on vertically slidable shafts 30 mounted on table 12. Shafts 30 are moved by cam follower 32 into engagement with cam 34, mounted above table 12 on stationary support 35. Vacuum is applied to holder 14 through conduits 36 and 37.

At load station 20, modules 16 are raised from table 18 by ejector 38 into holders 14 on table 12. Vacuum is applied to secure modules 16 in holders 14.

At shear stations 22 and 24, modules 16 are moved downwardly by shafts 30, as shearing assembly 40 is moved upwardly into engagement by a suitable cam arrangement not shown. When shear plates 41 and 42 are in position, push rod 43 and linkage 44 move plate 42 relative to plate 41. Plates 41 and 42 contain holes and slots to receive the pins.
