Abstract

The retraction mechanism can support any device requiring alignment and retraction, such as an H-shield or a magnetic head in a tape drive. Supported member 10 is adjustably fixed to holder 11 that is fastened to handle 12 by guide pins 13. The latter allow member 10 to be adjusted to its aligned position relative to holder 11 and handle 12.

Aligned Retraction Mechanism

The retraction mechanism can support any device requiring alignment and retraction, such as an H-shield or a magnetic head in a tape drive. Supported member 10 is adjustably fixed to holder 11 that is fastened to handle 12 by guide pins 13. The latter allow member 10 to be adjusted to its aligned position relative to holder 11 and handle 12.

An extension 14 of handle 12 is fastened to a slip shaft 15. This is slideable in a vertical direction along two holes in fixed support 16 attached to frame 17. Extension 14 extends backwardly whe re it is fastened by screw 21 to shaft 15 and has at least one leaf spring that forms a detent supporting ball 20, for rubbing on opposite sides of pin 18 fixed in support 16 by a setscrew 22.

Whenever member 10 is moved downwardly to its operating position, the detent is engaged with a groove to obtain very accurate alignment for member
10.
