Abstract

In ultrasonic impact grinding equipment, workpiece 1 is mounted on anvil 3 and beneath ultrasonic horn 5. Recess 7 is defined, e. g., semi-cylindrically, semispherically, conically, etc., in the face of horn 5. Grinding tool 9 is shaped, e. g., either cylindrically or spherically, to be received in recess 7. Tool 9 can be located on workpiece 1 by suitable adhesive material and horn 5 registered to receive grinding tool 9 in recess 7. During the grinding process, abrasive slurry is introduced over workpiece 1. Due to its surface regularity, grinding tool 9 rotates freely so as to be worn uniformly while both workpiece 1 and recess 7 are abraded.
