Abstract

This connector terminates flat cable 11 to a board and consists of two basic units, a cable terminating assembly 12, and a special clamshell housing 13 as in drawing A. Cable terminating board 15 serves as a support for contacts 17 and serves as a common ground for the ground contacts. Housing 13 provides insulation and supports board 15 in recess 18. Housing 13, when closed, also strain relieves, by clamping at 19 and 20, the cable to board joints. Drawing B shows that signal wires 21 are connected to contacts 17 while ground wires 23 are connected to contacts 25 via common ground plating 27. This arrangement can also be used with discrete three-wire cable and coaxial cable.
