Abstract

The print hamme rs are arranged in groups G which consist of as many as twelve print hannmers. A printer includes several such print hammer groups G. Each can be moved parallel to the printing line and stopped in any position required. Each group G also comprises the control units required for actuating the individual print hammers. Groups G are arrested at various points along the printing line in accordance with the form F columns in which printing is to be carried out. If, for example, columns 1 to 35 in Form F are the printing columns, G1 to G3 are moved to the appropriate position and arrested. If the assumed form F has further printing columns, for example, colunnns 108 to 132, groups G4 to G5 are moved to the appropriate position.
