A low-viscosity, flame-retardant epoxy potting compound can be formulated as follows: 100 parts by weight epoxy resin

20 parts by weight SiO(2)

8 parts by weight diethylene triamine

1 part by weight pigment paste.

The epoxy resin is D. E. R.*-580. It is a brominated bisphenol -A epoxy containing approximately 15% bromine. The bromine acts as a flame retardant. The SiO(2) reduces epoxy shrinkage during cure and reduces flameout time. Diethylene triamine reacts with the bisphenol -A epoxy and hardens it. The pigment paste gives color to the cured resin.

Advantages, which are realized, are very fast flameout time, 1.5 seconds; low viscosity, approximately 5000 centipoise; fast cure; and use of only one inorganic filler material SiO(2). *Trademark of Dow Chemical Co.
