Abstract

This is a method of manufacturing a fiber optic array. The individual plastic fiber 10 is inserted into hole 12, countersunk in fixture 14. Hole 12 is slightly smaller than the fiber diameter. This is done by using clamp 16 to stiffen and guide fiber 10, which protrudes slightly from guide well 18. This provides an interference fit which holds fiber 10 in place without the need for potting the assembly.
