Abstract

Platen 1 is indexed by pawl 2 acting in ratchet 3 by oscillating energy taken from power cam 4 through linkage 5 and pawl carrier lever 6. Pawl 2 is normally engaged with ratchet 3 and thus rests in condition for an immediate platen driving operation.

Platen 1 is indexed by pawl 2 acting in ratchet 3 by oscillating energy taken from power cam 4 through linkage 5 and pawl carrier lever 6. Pawl 2 is normally engaged with ratchet 3 and thus rests in condition for an immediate platen driving operation.

Platen 1 can be manually turned backwards in spite of the normal engagement of pawl 2. Such is due to the provision of pawl release cam 7. The latter is driven by teeth of ratchet 3 to pivot pawl 2 outwardly against its bias spring 8. Detent roller 9 is positively driven into ratchet 3 to accurately define line location at the end of each power stroke through one-way mechanical connection

The amount of line feed is controlled by manual lever 11 and lost motion connection 12, through pawl carrier 6 which allows pawl 2 to give the appropriate drive to ratchet 3.
