This apparatus permits sampling oscilloscope waveforms of high speed circuits to be plotted automatically by a single operator.

The use of the plotter reduces testing time, test setup damage and human error.

Sampling oscilloscope 20, typically a Hewlett-Packard 185B, is connected to either fast scan generator 22 or slow scan generator 24 at an operator's discretion according to the operation of a foot control switch not shown. A control relay closes contacts RC1 and RC2 immediately and contacts RC3, RC4, and RC5 approximately 200 milliseconds after the foot switch is depressed. The DC output of oscilloscope 20 is applied to X-Y plotter 26, typically a Moseley 2D unit, through contacts RC2.

Generator 22 has a ramp output at approximately a 60 hertz rate. The voltage levels required to scan the oscilloscope range from -1 volt to +12.5 volts. Generator 24 has a ramp output which starts at 0 volts and rises in approximately 9 seconds to +12 volts.

The oscilloscope 20 probe, not shown, is held by the operator at a circuit test point at which the waveform is desired. The operator obtains the desired waveform by depressing the foot switch and plotting the waveform. Generator 22 is used for observing the waveform on oscilloscope 20 and is disconnected from the oscilloscope when waveform plots are to be obtained.
