Abstract

This recording device has a recording medium 1 on which digital data is written by modulating electron beam 2 generated at source 3. Medium 1 comprises a thermoplastic layer 4 and a high-density dielectric layer 5. Beam 2 deposits a charge 6 of one polarity in discrete areas on medium 1. Then gun 7 deposits a uniform charge of opposite polarity on the surface of layer 4. By heat-treating medium 1, local deformations in layer 4 are formed representative of the data recorded.
