Abstract

In this data recording system, a memory element comprises very thin thermoplastic film 2, beam inducible conductive layer 3, conductive coating 4, and substrate layer 5. For recording, low-energy electrons 6 are first deposited near the surface of the element. Next, a high-energy electron beam 7 penetrates film 2 at selected areas and induces charge carriers in layer 3. Thus charge gradients are left on film 2 indicative of the data recorded. By heating the element, film 2 can be deformed to create a high-resolution data image.
