Compensator for Light Deflector

Deflector dispersion and optical path length differences occur in a light deflector when acting on two wavelengths of light. This apparatus compensates for the deflector dispersion and path length differences outside the light deflector.

Light of wavelengths lambda 1 and lambda 2 is supplied to convergent type light deflector 1 through lens 2. The positioning of the light beams by deflector 1 is controlled by X and Y control circuits 3 and 4. Compensation of the dispersion and pathlength differences resulting from the operation of the deflector is achieved with dichroic mirror or prism 5. This element separates the light path of the two colors. The light of wavelength lambda 1 is transmitted through prism 5. The light of wavelength lambda 2 is reflected to mirror 6. Lenses 7 and 8 are positioned at selected focal length positions within the path of the beams to cause superimposing of the image of the two colors at the same position on screen 9. Out of focus imaging and image distortion are avoided with this compensator.

By selecting dichroic mirrors and lenses any pair of light colors can be accommodated in this system.
